It's fine if you're into this kind of thing

If you are a fan of formulaic romance you will probably love this. I imagine this hits extremely hard if you're 17. I found the characters to be exactly what you'd expect in an adaptation of romance series #68686262725377. It is certainly a better adaptation than a lot of the straight to streaming slop that gets churned out, but that is maybe not saying a lot.

It's very clear that the source material is one of many many examples of contemporary romance doing exactly the same tropes and I imagine many of the sins of the show are largely downstream of that. It's hard to avoid the comparison to Heated Rivalry which was a fascinating case of autor vision when adapting a slop romance book. It showed that you can make a genuinely good adaptation of abysmal source material.

In this show the acting is just shy of entirely serviceable, by no means awful, but not good enough to risk above the scripts which are pretty uninspired. The dialogue is the classic insipid teen romance fare you would expect and no one acts like a person because of course a man who acts like an actual hockey player is not an aspirational romantic partner. The perfunctory impediments to the various romances are easily and quickly overcome. In general the characters have no chemistry and their individual personalities aren't really supported by the text. It's a lot of alleging that she's a gifted musician while she sings songs that of course sound like you asked a television writers room to come up with a pop song. He's allegedly the best to ever do it at hockey, sure I guess.

If the premise of a lukewarm romance between two people who are technically attractive if utterly devoid of charisma sounds appealing give it a shot. You might like the portrayal of sensitive hockey bros who cook and cry and live in the worlds cleanest frat house.

Perfectly normal watch

To preface: I am NOT a hockey romance fan and i haven't read the books, I also watched it all in one night so i didn't take a break to process in between episodes. That being said it actually wasn't a hard watch. It was a bit predictable, at some points it was cringy but overall a very normal, decent watch. I also loved Hannah's voice, Ella Bright should do audiobooks.

Another american student cringe show.

I have watched multiple high school / college shows, so I had a rough idea of what all I was gonna see in it and had my expectations bare minimum and not something at the level of a show like sex education for example.

But even after that first few episodes were very much cringy(?).

Good one time watch show to binge watch while scrolling.

Why overhyped?

Honestly, I really enjoy high school or college youth dramas. I usually just watch them casually to pass time and have a good, easy experience. But I saw this show being heavily promoted everywhere, and it made me curious about why. Because the teen dramas I've watched don't usually get such high ratings or this level of hype.

So I decided to give it a chance and watched a couple of episodes, but I couldn't really get into it. First of all, the characters look way too old to be university students. Almost all of them look like they're in their 30s. Even the female lead, who's supposed to be 19, looks more like she's between 28 and 30. And honestly, I don't think she has that "aura" people talk about. I don't even find her attractive.

As for the male characters, sure, they're all conventionally good-looking and clearly designed to attract viewers. But the storyline feels extremely cliché and doesn't offer anything surprising at all. I still don't understand why it's been so overhyped.

I mean, if you say the female lead is beautiful-she's not. If you say she's interesting-she's not. The only thing she seems to have going on is her body, like having a figure similar to Sydney Sweeney-and I'm wondering if that's really the whole point. Also, the way the characters jump into relationships so quickly and then move on just as fast... I don't know. It doesn't feel like a very substantial show.

I genuinely don't understand why it's loved more than other teen dramas.

Overrated Campus

Off Campus Season 1 was an okay-ish watch for me. It's not bad, but it's definitely not great either. The series is based on the book The Deal and has some entertaining college romance moments throughout the season.

Hannah (Wellsy) and Garrett were decent characters, but honestly, Allie and Dean were far more interesting to me. Their chemistry already feels more fun and natural, and I'm more excited to see their storyline in future seasons. Logan was another character that stood out because it feels like there's still a lot more depth left to explore with him.

One major issue I had with the show was the excessive amount of unnecessary sex scenes. One or two scenes would have been understandable, but here it started feeling repetitive and overused instead of adding value to the story.

Also, for me personally, this series is not even close to Maxton Hall in terms of emotional connection, chemistry, or overall quality.

Overall, it's just an average college romance series with a few enjoyable characters and moments.

Mid

I really tried to like this. But it's so subpar. They fellah adapted this as a money grab it's so clear in the way this has been filmed. Also the two leads barely have any chemistry.

AllI and de larestes is probably the best part of the whole show. I really got get the high ratings. Unless it's coming from very young viewers.

Bad book adaptation

I read the books and this show, unfortunately, falls short. I was super excited they were bringing it to the screen but, all in all, it was a lazy attempt.

It may be better if you didn't read the books but even then, it's no romance masterpiece. The acting itself was rather shallow and the story's essence just didn't get transported.

Good

As a BookTok romance girlie, I honestly really enjoyed Off Campus even though I haven't read the series yet. The show totally gave the kind of college romance vibes that BookTok girls love, and it actually made me want to read the books after watching it.

The acting was good overall, except for Hannah sometimes. Her acting felt a bit repetitive especially in the first episodes I felt like she had the same reaction in almost every scene always smiling and not showing enough emotion when the scenes were supposed to feel deeper or more serious.

What surprised me the most was how much focus they gave to Allie and Dean instead of mainly Garrett and Hannah, but honestly I loved it. Their chemistry was AMAZING. Every scene between them felt natural, emotional, and fun at the same time. Their acting was so good that now I seriously want to read their book first.

I also liked the whole friend group and how the writers tried to connect everyone's trauma and relationships together. It made the characters feel more real and added emotional depth to the story.

One thing I still don't understand though is why they tried so hard to make Nolan look like the good guy when he clearly wasn't. He was honestly such a bad friend liking his best friend's girlfriend, constantly hating on him for no real reason, and blaming him for so many things that weren't even his fault. I feel like the show wanted us to sympathize with him too much when most of his actions were actually really toxic.

The only thing I didn't really like was how fast everything moved between the main couple. Some moments felt rushed, and I wish their relationship had developed more slowly. The plot was also a little predictable at times, but honestly that's part of the charm with these kinds of romance shows.

Overall, I think Off Campus is such a fun watch for BookTok romance girls. It has drama, romance, chemistry, and all the college vibes you expect from this type of story.

There is a target group and it used to be me

I have never read the books but I was around on Wattpad about 10 years ago so I might as well have read the books over and over again. Off Campus comes with a predictable plot (always imagine the worst under the disguise of making it interesting), cringe actions, and not exactly likable characters--at least for me. The past trauma felt forced and so did many of the emotional reactions. Still, while 16-year-old me was able to look past horrible writing, adult me cannot but I am housing critical double standards because hot actors can make me watch anything.

Good but all about sex

This is a good series and hits great points on coming of age real problems that I went through myself, such as rape, abusive father and just finding yourself. But this didn't need to film so much sex senses. For me I didnt think just about every episode need sex and nudity or watching the characters masterbate. That did not bring anything to the character, all it did was to try and keep a certain demographic to tune in to keep watching. I find it takes away from the actual story and lessons to relate and learn to. But who am I to say ha.

My thoughts on off campus

In my opinion, the books were way better. The show was okay, but I thought the acting was pretty good overall. I did like some scenes though. Episode 1 especially felt a little stiff between Hannah and Garrett at first, like the actors were still settling into the dynamic. But by the later episodes, the chemistry definitely improved and started to feel more natural and believable.

I also thought the sex scenes were lacking. They were okay, but not nearly as intense or emotional as they were in the books. Honestly, I felt the chemistry and spicy scenes were written much better in the books. I know the actress who played Hannah was only 18 or 19 during filming, so that may be one reason the scenes felt more toned down and less passionate compared to the source material.

Overall, I'd give the show a 6/10.

Hallmark + Highschool Musical

I genuinely can't believe the score people gave to this show. It's just a typical Hallmark-teenage-college-crush storyline and the acting is terrible. I couldn't go beyond the first episode. If you like brain rot content for white noise in the background, this is a perfect choice. Don't bother playing this.

Music Meets Ice

Unfortunately, I ended up liking this series quite a lot. I believe it's based on a book, and it follows a group of college hockey players and girls, each chasing their own dreams and ambitions.

The story mainly focuses on Garrett, who is struggling academically, and Hannah, a talented musician and one of the top students on campus. When Garrett asks for her help, Hannah agrees to tutor him on one condition: he must help make her crush, Justin, jealous. What begins as a simple arrangement gradually turns into something much deeper and more heartfelt.

The middle portion of the series felt a bit slow, while the ending moved too quickly and didn't fully give some storylines the payoff they deserved. Still, the hockey matches, especially during the middle and final episodes, were exciting and full of tension. The build-up was excellent, but the resolution wasn't quite as satisfying as I had hoped.

Enjoyable but overrated

I enjoyed this show, but it's nowhere near as good as I would have expected considering the ratings and general enthusiasm about it. There are a few gripping, high points, but the majority of the show is average and subpar. The show overall is a step above average. Worth a watch when in search of something that will hold your attention, but not worth the massive praise.
