This isn't a throw-BACK...this is the Next Generation of Horror.

I was about to begin my review - BEFORE I saw this film - with: This took a Backroom to Obsession. And yet, I'm now more Obsessed with Backrooms. Sorry, Obsession...take a back seat to 2nd place.

What a time we live in. Maybe it's whenever we have a MONSTER in the White House, we get such great Horror movies. People are truly drawn to Horror when things aren't great in the world and this year...MONTH...has truly matched up. Two freaking homeruns in a row (Obsession and Backrooms.)

Despite this being an online thing or game, either of which I was completely oblivious to, this has to be one of thee most original horror, ah-hem, any movie, of all-time. I marveled so hard throughout this entire movie with how vastly different it was and yet so grounded.

Also, this SHOULD ABSOLUTELY win Best Production Design. By a landslide. May 30, 2026, I'm calling it for the remainder of the year.

A truly layered, down-on-his-"luck" furniture store manager/owner(?) gets thrust into an outer-worldly "backrooms" maze of extraordinary depth. What? How? Why? You decide.

This is the movie I had wished Longlegs would've been. In fact, the lead female reminded me so much of the Longlegs' lead female. They just did it better here.

I haven't had this much emotion leaving a theatre in such a long time. I cannot process how much I loved this and where it concluded. While I truly love so many horror films of the past decade, including Hereditary, The Substance and, again, Obsession, I love how many more original, deep, disturbing, fun, thought-provoking, jaw-dropping art pieces keep making to the big screen.

This movie made me so happy to be alive. And that's because it's so rich in creativity and people who seek to make us scared and appreciate life. This is real art. Real filmmaking. Sure, spend $300 million on a Disney movie and they simply fail at making a treasure with 1/100th the budget.

Bravo. This may not win any top awards from Hollywood. It will from true fans.

Final Thoughts: I can only guess this was set in 1990 to avoid the whole "cell-phone" horror trap/trope. I can, for certain, say: this was 100% 1990. And not in a Stranger Things homage to the 80s. Every set, every couch, seat, lamp, design....1990. Again, Oscars...honor this.

This movie perfectly captures the unsettling vibe of Backrooms, not just Backrooms but also weirdcore, dreamcore, etc. This film is truly terrifying and very good, I highly recommend it. The sets are very well done, the CGI is also very good, the acting is phenomenal, everything is very good, it was worth the wait, absolute cinema.

10/10 for sure.

Amazing, anyone saying otherwise just hate the way kane pardon envisioned the premise or concept of the backrooms. The movie isn't generic, it does a great job combining and utilitasing the original ideas of the backrooms we have had from the original story. Hopefully kane will have more opportunities to make more great movies.

This movie's cinematography and music was so well done, quality was something that Kane Parsons truly took effort into keeping, the movie was really captivating, the casting was great, I did give it an 8 cause I did expect this to go in another way, or maybe expand a little bit further, but i completely understand it's thematic and setting, just a personal choice!

An amazing horror movie that is full of beautifully done exposition and very intentional symbolism. I usually don't write movie reviews, but I have to contribute to giving this movie the credit it deserves so we give studios the courage to green light these amazing movies made by amazing directors. Don't spoil yourself, go watch it.

Backrooms was amazing.

The slow tension unease was the best part of the movie where every corner was a new room and something to discover.

The character arcs were fleshed extremely heavily as well, spread throughout the film. Every single scene made sense and it was surprisingly funny at times as well.

The character acting was incredibly realistic as well, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve did amazing and so did other characters.

The end sequence made me want more as only part of the areas of the backrooms was shown.

10/10 this movie may not be for everyone but it was for me. The plot was tied together from beginning to end and brought the backrooms justice. I just need a second movie to bring out that world building potential even more than it could than in this movie.

I feel that a lot of horror movies in the last few years felt stale in their story with cheap scares and such, but this movies story and overall atmosphere is so well made and for being made by someone who's only 20 it truly shows what his future as a director looks like and I can't wait to see his next film. More on the backrooms though. This movie was very well paced and the "Villain" is very well explained as a concept. The character of Clark was also very well made along with Mary's and overall this movie deserves its 10/10.

Absolutely great, amazing storytelling, great jumpscares, good immersion, acting, etc. I almost felt like i was in there with them. The idea of "backrooms" wasnt changed but was enhanced in a way that made it scarier. It did an amazing job at using silence to create an atmosphere of tension, fear, and uncertainty.

Honestly if you have never seen any back room to do with Kane pixel and genuinely have no clue what he is and going into the movie u believe there will be levels this one isn't for you as you have to understand the Kane pixel backrooms universe otherwise it's going to feel like cheap slop honestly I walked out the movie and it was great also the movie is said to be an episode to the Kane pixel backrooms so does that not show you that you should watch the episodes or even have a brief understanding to those people who think it's really bad sorry to break it to you but you're not the target audience and even if you have never seen the Kane pixels backrooms it's not hard to understand so to those people who think it's bad I'm convinced you have 0 media literacy the only flaw is that it's short otherwise the movie was excellent.

ITS WAS AWSOME I HAVENT WATCHED SOMETHIN LIKE THIS IN MY LIFE, AND THE END, AFTER FIGHT CLUB THIS MIGHT BE ONE OF THE BEST PLOT TWIST I ALMOST DIDNT EVEN BREATH ITS NOT SCARY AT ALL BUT YOU CANT RUN AWAY FROM THAT EFFECT THAT MOVIE MAKES, YOU CANT RELAX AND I DIDNT EVEN REILEZED THAT MOVIE END AND THE MUSICS PLACES ANGELS ARE PERFECT.

As someone who was already a huge Backrooms fan before the movie, this honestly felt perfect. The camera work, sound design, references, and environments are insanely faithful to the best Backrooms videos on YouTube.

You can really tell Kane Pixels respected both his original videos and the community instead of turning it into a generic horror movie. The analog horror atmosphere is still there the whole time. Absolute masterpiece for Backrooms fans.

I really liked this movie, it was pretty good, It's exiting, I got scared a few times, I really want a 2nd movie I want to know what happened with Mary, I love her, I fully recommend it. I really don't know why on Tiktok I saw so many bad reviews but I truly like this movie. It's fun, scary, exiting and nasty.

I had to write a review for this. This movie does not deserve the hate. It's exactly what I wanted from the backrooms. It's got that eerie vibe to it and that perfect suspense element. Sure it has its flaws but they are not enough and aren't that much of a big deal to hate on this movie.

If your debating whether to watch this movie you should. Don't listen to the hate. This movie is exactly what it should be.

Kane Pixel's Backrooms movie is something that fans of the series, me included, have been waiting years for. And honestly, it lives up to the expectations. This movie builds so much on the already set plot of Kane's Backrooms series, answering some questions and making new ones for fans to theorise about. The only 'downside' about this movie is that it requires some understanding of the YouTube series and other niche content to fully grasp it. However it goes without saying that this movie, is absolutely fantastic.

My thoughts on the negative reviews:

A lot of the negative reviews surrounding this movie seem to stem from not understanding the series and the story arch so far. A lot of people are leaving the theatre with more questions than answers and I personally don't think this movie is as impactful, fun, scary or unnerving as it is for true backrooms fans if you don't understand Kane's version of the Backrooms. A lot of people coming into this only know the basics from games or clips of the series, a deeper understanding is definitely needed to fully appreciate this movie and not miss references or already seen info from the YouTube episodes.

My Review:

Incredible. Without spoilers this movie hits almost everything I expected from this series an unknown world and evil, exploring a man and woman's deeply rooted trauma personified by the backrooms as each of them navigate it. The only part that drops it to a 9 for me is pacing and length, I believe we could have easily got 30mins more from the movie and some scenes length seem unnecessary. I understand they were setting the unnerving scene but I feel like it would have the same impact if it was more compacted and it seemed dragged. Overall amazing film would watch again and PRAY they make a second and third movie.

The Backrooms is one of the most unsettling and captivating horror experiences I've seen. Instead of relying on cheap jump scares, it creates fear through atmosphere, mystery, and the feeling of being completely lost. The endless yellow hallways, buzzing fluorescent lights, and empty rooms turn an ordinary setting into something deeply disturbing.

What makes the movie stand out is its ability to build tension. Every corner feels dangerous, and the audience never knows what might be waiting ahead. The visuals are incredibly effective, making the Backrooms feel vast, endless, and impossible to escape. The sound design is equally impressive, with distant noises and constant ambient hums that keep viewers on edge.

The story balances mystery and horror perfectly. Rather than explaining everything, it leaves enough unanswered questions to keep the imagination working long after the movie ends. This sense of the unknown is what makes the experience so memorable.

Overall, The Backrooms is a masterclass in psychological horror. It transforms a simple internet concept into a terrifying and immersive cinematic experience. For fans of suspense, mystery, and atmospheric horror, this is an absolute must-watch.

The cinematography, the references, the way it lets a scene linger the it doesn't hold your hand, the sound design.

The way it leaves you wanting more while still being satisfying. Its themes of memory, trauma, the mind, the ways we set our selves up.

I left the theater loving it and the more I think about it the more my opinion continues to grow.

I highly recommend seeing it if you can.

Excellent slow burn horror. The found footage elements were very well done. Acting was great. Cinematography was awesome. Set design was excellent. Kane Parsons has a very promising future ahead of him. I would love to see him write and direct a film instead of just directing like he did with backrooms.

The movie was incredibly great overall. It was terrifying when it needed to be terrifying, and it gives you time to process what happened afterwards. The only reasons its not a 10/10 for me is that I wish at least a little more was explained and that it was at least 30 or so minutes longer. Kane did a great job on this movie, and I don't think this movie deserves the hate it gets.
