Toy Story 5 was an absolute disaster! It was so terrible that I only endured it out of respect for Steve Jobs. This disgraceful movie is a literal insult to the memory and legacy of Jobs, who laid the foundations of Pixar. Such a cheap, soulless production completely stains the franchise's legendary history.

I wanted to sit back and enjoy a good old fashioned adventure with the gang, but this wasn't it. Instead this newest iteration of the series was more focused on the anxious minds of three little girls. The characters were thin and the story dragged. Lacking the humor and energy Toy Story is known for, number 5 lost the attention of most of the boys in the theater (dads included) less than halfway through. Too bad...

Cons: 5 was halfway a high budget PSA that seemed overly judgmental towards modern parents. It has a strong one-sided view against screen time that made it feel like the script was written by boomers who needed to feel vindicated for their hatred of advancing technology (it was written and directed by the same guy, who is 1 year shy of being a boomer). And the other half was just a redundant rehash of themes that were already covered in the previous Toy Story movies.

Pros: The humor was good. The rehashed themes are good themes, so I never felt like leaving the theater even though that half of the movie never brought anything new.

Saw this with my wife and sons (7&4).

All four of us are big Toy Story fans, especially my eldest who for the first four years of his life carried a woody doll everywhere he went.

We've accepted that the series should have ended at three with the story coming to a satisfying conclusion. Like with most things Hollywood if it makes money it gets made.

Four had its charms but was ultimately a let down and for us this chapter is a continuation of the slide into mediocrity.

The first hour was really, really dull. There were barely any moments that raised a chuckle from the audience. It was a whole hour of whiny backstory from Jessie that we've already seen. The story picks up a little bit towards the end when the buzz lightyears take a more prominent role and it has some of the heart of the original films but for me the damage had been done.

Let's be honest with ourselves: Toy Story 5 is the best movie in the franchise because it finally stops romanticizing plastic trash.

Woody is the ultimate toxic ex. Every single movie is just Woody refusing to accept that he is obsolete. Toy Story 5 finally treats him like the hoarder's item he is. He belongs in a glass display case or a museum, not holding back the emotional growth of actual human children.

Buzz Lightyear was always boring. He's a plastic delusion of a space ranger. The new electronic and digital characters actually have functions.

If you are a grown adult crying in the theater because a plastic dinosaur got replaced by an iPad, you are the problem, not the movie. Pixar finally grew up. It's time for the fans to do the same.

One of the worst Toy story in my opinion. My child who is obsessed with Toy Story (entire room is even Toy Story themed) lost interest about halfway through it. Told me he wanted to go home and watch a different toy story during the middle of the film. Wait till it's on Disney plus so you don't need to waste your money. Not a terrible movie by any means but should have just ended with 4 and kept it. Nothing memorable about the film.

First off I love Toy Story since I seen the first one in the cinema in 1995. Sadly I just wasn't feeling this one

It was as if they took all the dreary outtakes from previous Toy Story adventures and edited it all together. It was just all a bit off with pacing, voice acting and dialogue. It was clunky with tech bad toys good narrative

The G n diva gnome (uk release) was a highlight though.

Such a shame what this beloved franchise has come to. Such a shame that this franchise is owned by a greedy, money hungry company. I remember watching the first 3 Toy Story movies when I was a kid and how I couldn't stop watching them because they gave me a sense of who I was and how my toys were "alive". Not just the feeling they gave me but the story behind those movies too. This movie lacks in every aspect of what made the first 3 movies so great. There isn't a story being told in my opinion, even though the movie is literally called Toy Story. What I mean by this statement is that it's messy and continues to flip from POV's which is disorienting. It also fails in making the viewer feel interested, for me at least. Some directors can nail this narrative, Disney just failed in it with this movie. It overdoes the comedy so much that it gets old pretty fast. The first 3 movies had funny moments too, but they didn't overdue it which made it funny and not another: "Oh, here we go again..". Just explain a story that the viewer, no matter child or adult, can follow and relate to, like the first 3 movies did which led to them being so good. Stop using Toy Story's good name to get a quick payday. Stop insulting the fans that grew up with this franchise. Yes, I get the message of what they're trying to say with how technology lives everywhere which leads to people, kids but also adults, to not bond with each other anymore. But make it an interesting movie to watch. You have an idea of a plot, you just fail in nailing it for the viewer. For me at least. In my heart the Toy Story franchise ended with the 3rd one. And that's not necessarily because Toy Story 4 and 5 didn't live up to the first 3 movies, but that the story of this franchise has already been told and has ended with Toy Story 3 with it's perfect ending. No reason in trying to retell a story which has already been told other than a quick payday by using its name. If you enjoyed this movie, props to you, I just didn't.

I thought it was a way too cynical gen X whinge fest about technology that had as many laughs as a funeral and threatened to have a "used to drink from the hose" rant at any moment.

But on the other hand, my daughter absolutely loved it, so I do see the hypocrisy here. Not the target audience. Let kids enjoy what kids like. Etc.

A needless addition to the franchise which is rather boring. Much of the story doesn't make sense. Save time and money by rewatching Toy Story 1 at home. I'm going to pretend this movie was never made because it added nothing.

Very disappointing that the music appears to have been changed completely from the original trilogy.

The movie is about Bonnie not the toys. It's heavily retconning the first trilogy too.

The initial pull of the film, to take into account the modern ailment of "screen time", was a cool concept. The end product though, is a predictable, boring story with a lot of forced moments.

The original films benefited from a much more simplistic and a smaller but more solid cast of characters. Jessie, the more annoying main character, takes center stage. We cut back and forth between 3 or 4 incongruent storylines, none of which are particular intruiging. The experience is jarring, with multiple loosely connected stories, flashblacks, a bloated cast of characters and forced dialogue. The one thing that wasn't overdone was the jokes. The lackluster story could have been saved if it was at least humorous. But outside a few poo jokes, the film lacked a lot of laughs.

Somehow, Toy Story 5 is dull then a stick of butter.

Personally, it's pretty clear the Toy Story franchise is running on air, because despite it's colorful animation and some concepts that I did like, the emotional engagement and connection is pretty much nowhere. The concepts about cyberbullying, technology and changes are pretty good, as the movie does bring out some good messages and concepts about modern toys and connections with people. Alongside the animation colors are beautiful and some great backgrounds, and the sound designs too. Some of the new toy model designs and structures are pretty good and creative.

The writing, sadly, it's not great. I'm not the ones who complain about Toy Story should have ended at 3, but just like the 4th one, the development of the characters, emotional connections and depth doesn't feel powerful, and no longer feels interesting. The character of Jessie does offer some new insightful development which I did like, but many of the other characters have little to no chemistry, developments, and felt much like filler. As if the movie is cramming too many characters at once, which ends up being forgettable, and come off annoying. The voice performances are surprisingly a mix of good and bad. There were some performances that are good, and some being really off-putting.

The musical score is uninteresting, the direction is bland, and somehow, it's pretty boring. Everything about the experience felt shallow and dull, and it's just not working anymore.

Overall, I'm sure the kids will like this but this is going to be one where I will forget pretty soon.

I was born in 1987, the original movie was on constant repeat on VHS in the 90s. I've now seen all 5 of these movies in theaters. The first 3 are perfection in my opinion, and it should have stopped there. Part 4 was an abomination and part 5 is not that much better... the only thing I thought was well done was the message of it- kids these days are way too dependent on tablets, video games, iPads, iPhones, and just technology in general. I was already skeptical about this movie but I figured I'd give it a chance. Wouldn't recommend it. The first 3 movies are genuinely funny, heartfelt and solid movies. I don't remember laughing once at part 4 or 5.

Final thoughts... It's better than part 4, but that's not saying much. Wait for streaming if you're curious.
